TYPE 1 DIABETES STUDENT AWARENESS SCHOLARSHIP
Two Scholarships (1) One $500 and (1) One $250
Students of Little Elm Independent School District Only
The election campaign of DeLeon English established this scholarship in honor of his daughter Amanda and Krista English, along with all student currently living with the daily struggle of Type 1 Diabetes. The goal of these scholarships is to raise awareness of the disease through education of the topic. These scholarships are offered to provide financial aid to students entering the field of healthcare upon graduation. These programs are offered to help offset tuition costs, student loans, and expenses.
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM CRITERIA
The DeLeon English Scholarship on Type 1 diabetes student awareness scholarship is awarded to deserving students who are seeking an associates or undergraduate studies at an accredited university or community college related to the field of health; to include, but not limited to public health, nursing, medicine, pharmacology, health promotion, disability studies and majors that will impact and improve the quality of life of those afflicted with life-threatening diseases.
FUNDING INFORMATION & APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Funds are limited to under $1,000. The Scholarship Campaign Committee will evaluate each of the applicants and make a decision in May of 2019. The 2019-2020 Scholarship Award will be awarded in late June 2019 and will be advised, at that time, by email and/or US mail
High School Seniors seeking higher education at an accredited four-year university or community
Recipients are selected based on the impacts of their grades, community volunteering, and recommendations by a high school teacher/counselor and a local volunteer organization.
The applicants will not be able to submit their application unless both recommendations have been completed and returned.
The scholarship is intended for the student to complete and not the parent.
Applicants are due by midnight (CST) on April 22, 2019.
Applicant must provide a Personal Statement (maximum 1 page, double spaced) which includes a brief personal history, educational/career goals, extra-curricular activities, and volunteer activities in the community. This statement must be written solely by the applicant. Finally, the student should interview a person with Type 1 diabetes (even if they have the disease themselves) and provide a written account of the interview (2 pages, doubled spaced) and the impact it had on them understanding the life of a person living with the disease.
Letters may be sent by U. S. mail or by email attachment and should include the signature of the teacher or advisor, and the name of the student should appear in the subject line of the email.
Applicant must provide an unofficial copy of high school transcript
